LISTENING ASSESMENT: To Kill A Mocking Bird
WHAT IS
THE TITLE OF THE BOOK PRESENTED?
The book was called
How To Kill a Mockingbird.
WHEN AND WHERE WAS THE BOOK WRITTEN?
The book was
written in the 1950s in New York and was published year 1960.
WHO IS THE AUTHER F THE BOOK?
The author is
called Harper Lee.
GIVE SOME INFORMATION ABOUT THE AUTHER WHICH
YOU HEARD DURING THE PRESENTATION.
Facts about
Harper Lee:
- She is still
alive today.
- She is 87 years old.
- Her best childhood friend was Truman Capote.
- Her book was made into a movie 1962.
- She is one of America’s most famous authors.
GIVE A BRIEF
DESCRIPTION OF ONE OF THE MAIN CHARACTERS OF THE BOOK INCUDING THEIR IMPORTANCE
IN THE STORY.
Description
of Scout: Scout lives with her father and her brother in the south of U.S.A. Her
mother is dead.
Kirsten said in her presentation that Scout is important to the story
since she learns a lot through the book. Usually while you are reading you get
stuck on one character (especially if the book is written in a first person perspective,
which this book is) and the ones that you get stuck on you feel like you live
though in the book, so if Scout learns something you learn something.
PARAPHRASE THE
SYNOPSIS OF THE BOOK.
The
main character, Scout lives with her brother Jim and father Atticus who is a
low paid lawyer since most of his customers are poor. She used to live with her mother too, but she passed
away a long time ago.
What I’ve understood is that the point of the book is too teaching important
life lessons and to acknowledge the harsh racism that was happening in the
south of America at that time. The young, little, immature girl Scout was just
a tool for Harper Lee to make a point.
HAVING NOW HEARD A
FELLOW CLASSMATE DISCUSS THEIR NOVEL, WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ABOUT IT? IS THE
BOOK SOMETHING YOU WOULD BE INTERESTED IN READING IF GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY?
WHY/WHY NOT?
Personally,
themes like racism really interests me for some reason, so yes I’m interested
in reading the book. I’m usually though more of a movie-person than a bookworm,
so I might consider seeing the movie instead, but the point is that the story
of the book interests me. I think that character development is an important ingredients
to a good book and Kirsten says in that the main character Scout really matures
and becomes a more open minded person throughout the story, so it definitely includes that.
ASSESS THE
PRESENTATION OF THE NOVEL.
I
think that this is a very good presentation and gives the viewer a very good
taste of how the book is about and she didn’t look away from the camera too
much. She also filled all of the E-criteria in a nice, organized way and used a
spoke in a good tempo with a wide vocabulary and a good pronunciation.
For further improvement she could have used some visual aids except for
the book and also have given a deeper description of the protagonist the
synopsis, but over all I liked it and it was nice to hear about a “new”, interesting
book that I haven’t heard about. Looking from that perspective it was actually
presented and review in a tempting way.
